whole lotta trouble ;

herroyaldarkness:

Regina was fast realizing that if she wished for Maleficent to stop her flirting, she was likely going to have to be more firm about the situation. However, for reasons she found herself not wanting to explore, she wasn’t quite ready to put an end to it. Perhaps it was selfishness, or even some streak of sentimentality, but it was nice to feel so desired, even if she was anything but lacking in her own confidence. Fighting back a smile at the remark, Regina took a long sip of the alcohol and gestured vaguely towards Maleficent with the glass in a half salute.  ❝ Well I could easily say the same of you. In fact you may be the first person who has displayed an equally respectable fashion sense in this world as in our own. ❞ Taking another sip, she paused thoughtfully.  ❝ Or any fashion sense at all, for that matter. ❞

Smirking a touch at Maleficent, Regina quickly caught herself. She cleared her throat lightly and subtly set the glass aside. She’d already had enough to drink, the last thing she needed was her judgement even more impaired. Especially around someone as intimately acquainted with her as Maleficent had once been. There was no telling how much Maleficent remembered, or if she would still find it so easy to see through Regina’s lies. Seeing the woman after so long was nice, but not at the risk of blowing her cover, or losing her chance of finding the author. She had to keep herself focused.

    ❝Oh? And go where exactly? At … nearly three in the morning.❞

Regina asked within a small dry laugh, a hint of skepticism coloring her words as a single eyebrow raised in question of her friend. Despite her apprehension, she couldn’t shake the smirking smile Maleficent pulled out of her. It seemed that not even her carefully worn facade was immune to the history the two of them shared. In fact it surprised Regina how much simply seeing Maleficent again stirred up the past. And while she could easily expound on the not-so-thrilling tale of her former mentor and his former maid, she’d much rather not waste any more of her life on Rumpelstiltskin. Not to mention, the suddenness of Maleficent’s offer seemed to be somewhat suspect.

❝ With as much as we’ve had to drink tonight, I highly doubt that we ought to be driving anywhere. ❞

Maleficent didn’t miss the way a smile seemed to stay permanently affixed to her former friend’s lips. Nor that it was clearly she herself who kept putting it there. It felt good to have her power again, no matter the manner or origin. Whether it was breathing fire or simply bringing any sort of unbearable heat to a situation, she was glad to see she hadn’t lost anything in her…time away. And when the compliments suddenly shifted onto herself her smirk grew wider, into something of a disbelieving grin, surprised entirely that flattery was coming out of Regina’s mouth.

“Did you expect anything less? After all that taste of yours clearly bears my influence.” Lips peel back into a more wicked grin; credit where credit was due after all. When Regina had first come to her there was little to be desired in terms of her dress. Always hiding away in a sea of brown and pastel, all the while black was simply screaming her name. Eventually she’d learned, and learned quite well. And Maleficent would take every bit of credit she saw fit.

At Regina’s reaction, one she’d been entirely expecting, Maleficent let out a small derisive snort, and then began moving around her chair to the coat rack on the back of the cabin’s door. “And here I thought the Mayor of this town wouldn’t want a woman who was most recently both dead and a dragon to be driving around causing havoc wherever she pleases. But if you won’t join me I suppose I’ll just enjoy myself.” Throwing a glance back over her shoulder her smirk stayed put, making it clear she was at least half joking, though no less serious about her request.
