“Somehow that is not surprising in the least to hear. In fact, what DOES surprise me is that you didn’t take measures to quiet her sooner.” Despite the past Regina’d had with Ursula, she undoubtedly found Cruella the most insufferable of the lot. Naturally she would out last the former. Clearing her throat and drawing in a deep breath, eager to seem more relaxed than she felt, Regina’s smile softens a touch at the question.

“Well even if you had it would too little too late by now, my dear.” Meeting Maleficent’s gaze, eyes flickering with something almost challenging, her smile widens. “But no, to answer your question. I wasn’t doing anything of consequence at all. Though I’m certainly glad to know that when you find yourself bored your first solution is to invite yourself into my home.” Maleficent would undoubted not miss the playful sarcasm that drips from every word, each syllable offering itself as a challenge.

“You mean like you used to do at my home?” Maleficent recalled, her words meeting Regina’s own in challenge, with no fondness to be seen. Whether or not she’d enjoyed the visits back then was not of consequence now. Nothing she used to enjoy was. She was beyond those things, beyond that first life altogether. It was ridiculous to behave otherwise.

“But that aside — I simply sought out the least insufferable party I could find on short notice. If I remember correctly you and I used to be good company for one another.”
